NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A Florida teen has been sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting.

A state attorney's office news release said Tuesday that the teen was convicted last year of second-degree murder with a firearm and shooting into a dwelling.

The release says the then-17-year-old boy approached a home in North Fort Myers in October 2015 and shot the victim, who was on a screened-in lanai, multiple times. The teen fled the scene but was captured later.

The victim was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to the hip, abdomen, chest, hand and shoulder. He later died.

The teen will be eligible for parole after 25 years because he was a juvenile at the time of the crime.
