Cooper, Genia reunited by Australia for Barbarians
LONDON (AP) — Will Genia and Quade Cooper have been reunited at halfback by Australia for the first time in a year for the Wallabies’ European tour-opening match against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Saturday.
Michael Cheika’s first selection as Australia coach also saw flanker Matt Hodgson selected as captain and winger Henry Speight given his first start in 2014.
Both flyhalf Cooper and scrumhalf Genia have been struggling with injuries this year and last played together in the 30-26 win over Wales last November.
The starting lineup, which includes fullback Israel Folau, has 495 caps.
Cheika says Thursday “this team contains a mix of players from our last game and also experienced players eager to push their way into the test team.
Australia also plays Wales, France, Ireland and England in November.
