Sheriff: Man fires gunshots as law officers surround home
LANDRUM, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man wanted on several charges barricaded himself inside a home and fired gunshots when U.S. Marshals showed up to arrest him on a warrant.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies requested a Special Weapons and Tactics unit — a S.W.A.T. team — at the home in Landrum on Monday morning.
The Greenville News reports that other people inside the house came out unharmed, but deputies say the house had been set on fire.
Authorities say the suspect surrendered moments later and was taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office says the man was wanted on multiple counts of kidnapping in the city of Greer. His name wasn’t immediately released.
