Las Cruces authorities still trying to ID some human remains
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Authorities still are trying to identify human remains found in an undeveloped area of Las Cruces and have increased the reward to $2,000.
Las Cruces police released photos of several pieces of evidence found near the remains last month.
Investigators hope someone will recognize the items that include five pieces of jewelry, the label from a coat and a pair of sunglasses.
Investigators also released the image of a small piece of paper in hope of someone recognizing the handwriting.
The human remains were found Dec. 10 by a hiker.
They were sent to the New Mexico medical examiner’s office, but investigators still don’t know the gender or approximate age of the individual.
Investigators aren’t sure if foul play was involved or how long the remains were in the area.
