MCC Fire Academy applications due by Oct. 22
Men and women who want to become firefighters can take the first step by enrolling in the 2019 Fire Academy.
Mohave Community College’s Fire Science Program partners with local fire stations to offer education and training. Completion of the fire academy is a requirement for those who wish to make a career of firefighting.
MCC’s Fire Academy is a 272-hour course that teaches basic concepts including fire behavior, rescue procedures, command and control, fire suppression, hazardous materials and firefighter safety.
The 16-week academy begins in January. Students who successfully complete the academy will receive 12 college credits, establishing a foundation for an Associate of Science Degree in Fire Science.
The course is Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-10 p.m. and Saturdays, 6 a.m.-5 p.m.
The program has a strict attendance policy. Students are only allowed 24 hours of excused absences.
Applications and details can be found at www.mohave.edu/fire or call fire science instructor Kamrin Dooley at 928-757-0841. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Oct. 22.
