UNIVERSITY-SECURITY FEES LAWSUIT

CLEVELAND — A conservative advocacy group suing Kent State University officials argues the Ohio school is impeding free speech with a $1,800 fee to provide security for a planned gun-rights discussion at the student center. SENT: 330 words.

BRIEFS:

— TRANSGENDER STUDENT-LAWSUIT: A professor is suing officials at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth after receiving a written warning for violating its nondiscrimination policy by not addressing a transgender student using the gender terms preferred by that student.

— BELATED BLIMP RIDE: Akron-based Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. honored a Stark County man’s voucher for a free blimp ride 17 years after it was awarded to him.

— COLUMBUS SCHOOLS-SUPERINTENDENT: Ohio’s largest school district, Columbus Local Schools, has approved a contract agreement with its new superintendent.

— EVENT FEE FIGHT: A newly formed group is supporting a proposed 7 percent fee on arts, sports and entertainment ticket sales in Ohio’s capital city as debate over the proposal continues.
