DETROIT (AP) — Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH’) has left Seattle’s game at Detroit in the third inning with a broken right hand after being hit by a pitch. Cano was struck by a pitch from left-hander Blaine Hardy, then went to the dugout while being replaced by a pinch runner. Cano hit a three-run homer in Seattle’s win last night.
DENVER (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have put right-hander Chase Anderson on the 10-day disabled list because of illness. Milwaukee recalled right-hander Freddy Peralta from Triple-A Colorado Springs and slated him to make his big league debut against Colorado. Anderson was scratched from his scheduled start last night due to a stomach illness. He was put on the DL retroactive to Thursday. Also, right-hander Jorge Lopez was recalled from Colorado Springs and right-hander Alec Asher was optioned to the Sky Sox.
DETROIT (AP) — Nicholas Castellanos is out of the starting lineup for the Detroit Tigers game against Seattle after he injured a finger on his left hand last night. Third baseman Jeimer Candelario isn’t starting either because of a sore wrist. The Tigers are also without slugger Miguel Cabrera and outfielder Leonys Martin, who are on the disabled list with hamstring strains.
PHOENIX (AP) — The Diamondbacks are hoping to avoid a four-game sweep at home after scoring just one run in each of their first three games against Washington. Jeremy Hellickson, who allowed just two hits in his last outing, starts for Washington tonight against Arizona’s Zack Godley, whose last win came on April 27 against the Nationals.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Adam Wainwright returns to the St. Louis rotation today when he starts at San Diego. The longtime Cardinals ace hasn’t pitched since April 17. He’s been out with inflammation in his right elbow, which underwent surgery in the offseason. The 36-year-old is 1-2 with a 3.45 ERA this season.
