PURCHASE, New York (AP) — Federal investigators have recovered a piece of the engine of a small plane that crashed and killed a member of the Rockefeller family in suburban New York.

Richard Rockefeller, the 65-year-old great-grandson of Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller, was killed in the crash on Friday.

The Piper Meridian single-engine turboprop plane went down shortly after takeoff from Westchester County Airport. It narrowly missed a house.

According to the Journal News (http://lohud.us/1qitmIA ), the plane has been taken to an undisclosed location and will be transferred to a storage facility.

The National Transportation Safety Board told the Journal that a preliminary report was expected in seven to 10 days.

Rockefeller was heading home to Maine after visiting his father David Rockefeller, the former Chase Manhattan Bank chairman and CEO.
