BELEK, Turkey (AP) _ Turkish striker Hakan Sukur rejoined the team’s pre-World Cup training sessions Wednesday, after he was sidelined with a knee injury earlier in the camp.
Sukur was carried from the pitch after a tackle by a teammate in training Monday, sparking fears that Turkey’s main goal hope at its first World Cup finals in half a century may struggle to make the team.
But Sukur was back in training with the rest of the squad Wednesday, and doctors said the injury did not appear to be serious. The Parma striker has suffered a series of minor injuries in recent months.
Turkey’s squad is training for a week in this southern resort town before flying later this week to Hong Kong, where it will play two warmup games before continuing to its World Cup base in South Korea.
