Veteran Ohio Congressman Hospitalized For Hypertension Tests
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Rep. Delbert L. Latta of Ohio, senior Republican on the House Budget Committee, has entered the Cleveland Clinic for tests and observation after experiencing some problems with hypertension, an aide to the 67-year-old congressman said Friday.
His aide, Joan Southard, said Latta, a member of the House since 1959, has suffered occasional bouts of hypertension over the past six weeks and thought it best to have the problem evaluated. She said he has been taking a mild diuretic over the past eight years to control hypertension.
She said Latta’s decision to enter the hospital Thursday is not connected to triple-bypass heart surgery he underwent at the clinic about 18 months ago.
She said the date of his release will hinge on the results of the tests.
