Crowes Honeymoon in Eastern Australia
BRISBANE, Australia (AP) _ Oscar winning star Russell Crowe is honeymooning in style _ Australian style, that is.
Over the weekend, the ``Gladiator″ star and his new wife, Danielle Spencer, stayed in a motel in the city of Rockhampton on Australia’s east coast and dined on takeaway fried chicken.
After a lavish wedding ceremony at his estate near the coastal resort of Coff’s Harbor last Monday, the Crowes are now on a ``self-drive honeymoon″ around Australia, Brisbane’s Courier-Mail newspaper reported. The paper ran a photograph of the newlyweds outside the Red Rooster chicken restaurant in Rockhampton.
On Friday night, the couple were spotted at Sumatra’s, a Rockhampton restaurant which promotes itself as serving ``tasty affordable meals″ starting at about three American dollars.
While the coast of Queensland is dotted with upscale resorts and towns set up to cater for tourists, Rockhampton, about 340 miles north of state capital Brisbane, is known as the ``beef capital of Australia″ because of the huge cattle herds owned by local ranchers.
While enjoying a $7.80 bottle of house wine, Crowe signed autographs for locals outside a bar and chatted briefly before he and Spencer drove off in their Mercedes, the Courier-Mail reported.
Catherine Dowson was given Russell Crowe’s autograph on the back of a free drink voucher and tucked it into her pack of cigarettes.
``I’m a local but if I was a movie star or a singer, Rockhampton is the last place I’d come for a honeymoon,″ Dowson said.
