Blood donations needed in wake of Hurricane Florence
NORFOLK - Thousands of lifesaving blood donations have gone uncollected due to drive cancellations forced by Hurricane Florence, but patients still need critical medical care.
Communications Manager with the American Red Cross Samantha Pollard says nearly 200 blood drives in the Southeast were forced to cancel, resulting in more than 5,200 uncollected blood and platelet donations.
Pollard says donations are needed to care for patients in the storm’s path and across the country.
She says donations are needed of all blood types especially types O negative and O positive.
