Royal Applied Manufacturing, up 75 cents at $4.25

The maker of Dirt Devil vacuums reported first-quarter net earnings of 15 cents a share compared to 6 cents a share in 1999′s first quarter.

Dillard’s Inc, down $3.85 at $17.20

The No. 3 U.S. operator of department stores said its March sales at stores open at least a year fell 13 percent. Fahnestock & Co. downgraded its rating of the company.

Avon Products, up $1.49 at $38.26

The cosmetics seller said Thursday it expects to report strong first-quarter results on April 27.


Sharper Image, down $1.40 at $8.97

The gadget retailer said March sales at stores open at least a year fell 1 percent, below company expectations. The company said its first-quarter loss will be wider than analyst projections.

Scient Corp., down 46 cents at $1.04

The Internet and technology consulting company warned fiscal fourth-quarter revenue would be about half its expectations and predicted an operating loss more than three times the loss forecast by analysts.

Ibis Technology, down $6.82 at $20.61

The Massachusetts wafer manufacturer cut its second-quarter revenue expectations, citing a drop in customer orders.
