Hold onto your hat — winds gusting to 45 mph will blow into Omaha
Grip that steering wheel, anchor your trash cans and hold onto your hat.
Strong winds will sweep through eastern Nebraska, Iowa and most of the north-central U.S. through Tuesday evening.
Northwest winds gusting to 45 mph or higher are forecast, so drivers in exposed areas will need to maintain a good grip on the steering wheel, the National Weather Service advises.
In eastern Nebraska, the strongest winds were forecast for Tuesday late morning and afternoon. So if your trash collection occurs Tuesday, you might be better waiting until early morning to set it out. A high of 45 was expected in Omaha.
The wind heralds an arriving cold front, so expect temperatures on Wednesday to top out in the mid-30s, closer to normal for early January. Thursday and Friday should be somewhat warmer, the weather service said.
