DINNER: A free dinner hosted by Greater Barboursville Community Outreach is from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Barboursville Senior Center. The menu includes grilled burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, chips, cookies and beverages.

GRAD: Joseph Boggess, from Milton United Methodist Church, gets a round of applause for his recent graduation from Cabell Midland High School. He plans to attend Cabell County Career Technology Center.

KICKOFF: The Festival of Saturdays Kick Off-Day is from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Central City Antiques District. Alias14W hosts the event with arts and music for $10. The first outdoor concert begins at 3 p.m. with an informal jam session and warm-up time from noon to 2:30 p.m. in the gazebo. Village Renew-All hosts vendors and sidewalk sales. Cicada Books and Coffee tries a new mobile cold brew cart and system. Free tai chi and yoga is at 9 and 10 a.m.

ADOPT: Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Control Shelter sponsors an adoption from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Stogie’s, 17 Washington Ave. Food and T-shirts are available.

CONCERT: John “Some Kind of Wonderful” Ellison, 2015 WVMHoF inductee, presents an evening of rock ‘n’ soul with backup by The Carpenter Ants and Randy Gilkey on keyboards from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Caf Cimino, Sutton. Jesse Milnes and Emily Miller of The Sweetback Sisters, Mark Bates and others are also featured. A silent auction is available. Tickets are $75 advance; $90 at door. FIRST: Congratulations to Eleanor Mortimer and her family on her first communion conducted recently at Ona’s St. Stephens Catholic Church.

PROGRAM: A Memorial Day patriotic program sponsored by City of Ashland and Recreation Department takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Ashland Central Park Bandstand. Entertainment is by The Singing Kernels, Emma Stephens; Chain Reaction, The Midnight Ride. Mike Wurts of AMVETS Post 95 is pledge leader. Other activities include Peanuts the Clown, free ice cream social, corn hole games, cotton candy, door prizes and more. Bring lawn chairs. Concession stands are open.

LIST: Taylor Scott of Huntington made the Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester at Carson-Newman University, Jefferson City, Tenn. Students earning a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while taking 12 or more credit hours are awarded this distinction.
