Arrested man allegedly ingests drugs on way to jail

November 7, 2018

A 25-year-old Rochester man was hospitalized early Saturday after apparently consuming drugs he had in possession while riding in a police squad car.

The man, Kadar Abdulkadir Abdullahi, was arrested at 5:17 a.m. Saturday by officers responding to an incident in the 2000 block of 41st Street Northwest. Abdullahi allegedly dropped an amount of narcotics on the ground while officers were investigating, said Capt. Casey Moilanen, of the Rochester Police Department. During an initial search, police found what appeared to be a ball of narcotics hidden on Abdullahi’s body.

They arrested him, and on the way to the jail, Abdullahi somehow ingested the drugs that had been hidden on him, Moilanen said. He was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys for treatment. He will be charged with first-degree sales of a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, and obstructing the arrest process. A total of 23.77 grams of cocaine was found, Moilanen said, not including whatever amount Abdullahi ate.
