BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Frederic Chabot stopped 27 shots as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-1 Wednesday night.

It was the first preseason game for Chabot, who played last season for the Houston Aeros of the International Hockey League. He was the league’s most valuable player.

The Kings opened the scoring at 11:16 of the first period when Vladimir Tsyplakov scored on assists from Glen Murray and Jaroslav Modry. Los Angeles went up 2-0 at 9:57 of the second when Mattias Norstrom scored on a rebound.

The Sharks got their only goal at 6:48 of the third period when Alexander Korolyuk scored on a power play.

Los Angeles put the game away with two goals in the third.

Pavel Rosa scored at 11:13 of the third while the Sharks were two players short. Jozef Stumpel’s empty-netter at 19:49 concluded the scoring.

The start of the game was delayed about 90 minutes because of trouble with the ice at the new Bank of America Centre.
