ERIE, Pa. (AP) — A man charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of his wife in their northwestern Pennsylvania home had been involved in a custody battle with his ex-wife in which his new wife had been called to testify.

Forty-four-year-old John Paul Grazioli of Millcreek Township faces homicide and other charges in Thursday's death of 31-year-old Amanda Grazioli, whom he married in September.

The Erie Times-News reports that she was subpoenaed late last month to testify at a March 19 custody trial. A status conference in the case was slated Monday.

Erie County authorities allege that Grazioli left a note saying he shot the victim, sent his ex-wife a message about the slaying, then drove to Erie, talked to a priest and surrendered. Arrest records don't cite an alleged motive.
