NEW YORK (AP) _ Brent Severyn of the Colorado Avalanche was suspended Tuesday for two games without pay for going over the boards to instigate a fight against Phoenix.

Severyn also was fined $1,000, the maximum allowed.

The incident occurred Thursday night after Phoenix's Kris King had checked Colorado's Rene Corbet. Severyn came over to boards on a legal line change and a fight ensued.

Severyn received four penalties _ a two-minute minor for instigating, a 5-minute major for fighting, a 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct.

Severyn already served one game and missed Tuesday night's game at Boston.
