Coyotes sign Penguins left wing Jeff Christian

PHOENIX (AP) _ Jeff Christian, a free agent who played sparingly for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, signed a one-year contract Monday with the Phoenix Coyotes.

Coyotes general manager Bobby Smith said the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Christian could help Phoenix this season with his ``size, skill and toughness.″

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Christian, 27, signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent in 1994 after four seasons in the New Jersey Devils organization.

The left wing had two goals and two assists in 11 games last season for the Penguins. While playing for Cleveland of the IHL, Christian tallied 40 goals and 80 points and picked up a team-high 262 penalty minutes.
