Report: Serbs Stone and Beat Muslim Refugees
SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) _ Serbs clashed with a group of Muslim refugees in northern Bosnia Friday. Several people were injured.
The melee broke out in an area where several such clashes have been reported over the last few months.
Scott Fleming, a spokesman for the NATO-led peace implementation force, said about 200 Serbs were involved. He said NATO had no further information.
According to Bosnian state television, Muslims trying to visit their former homes in Serb-held territory came under attack by Serbs as they crossed a bridge leading to the town of Doboj.
The bridge had been repaired by members of the NATO-led peace force and officially reopened Friday morning.
``They were beating us with clubs and rocks,″ one of the Muslims, Fikret Beso, told Bosnian TV. He accused NATO soldiers of standing by during the attack.
According to the television report, several people were wounded, including one Muslim who suffered serious head injuries.
The Bosnian Serb news agency SRNA said that a large group of Muslims attempted to force its way into Serb-held territory through a cordon of NATO soldiers, but was stopped and turned back by ``angry Serbs.″
