Elyria police arrest two men in connection to Monday’s fatal shooting in apartment building

ELYRIA, Ohio -- Elyria police arrested two men, and expect to arrest more people, in connection to a fatal shooting Monday evening in an Elyria apartment complex.

Keeon Green, Jr. and Lance Cheers are being held without bond in the Lorain County Jail, police say.

Green, 18, and Cheers, 28, are both charged with a first-degree felony of aggravated robbery. Capt. Chris Costantino said police will explore upgraded charges when the investigation is completed.

The charges stem from a shooting that happened about 6:05 p.m. at the Southwyck Apartments in the 1400 block of West River Road North, police say.

Police went to the complex to investigate a shots-fired report. The officers arrived and discovered Zachary Mason lying on the ground with several gunshot wounds in his torso, Costantino said.

Paramedics took Mason, 20, to University Hospitals’ Elyria campus where he later died.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated, Costantino said.
