Cal Crutchlow takes Assen TT pole
ASSEN, Netherlands (AP) — Cal Crutchlow snatched his first pole position for the Assen TT on Friday, becoming the first Briton in more than a decade to secure a MotoGP pole.
Crutchlow’s Yamaha clocked 1 minute, 34.398 seconds around the historic Assen track in a dry qualifying round.
He is joined on the front row for Saturday’s race by Marc Marquez and Stefan Bradl. Championship leader Dani Pedrosa is fifth on the grid.
Defending MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo was returning to Assen on Friday, a day after breaking his left collarbone in a high speed crash. He flew to Barcelona on Thursday for surgery to patch up the bone with a titanium plate and eight screws.
The last Briton on pole was Jeremy McWilliams at Phillip Island, Australia, in 2002.
