Beaver Dam High School threat deemed not credible
A reported student threat at Beaver Dam High School made Monday was determined to be without merit by school officials and police.
In an email Monday evening, Superintendent Mark DiStefano provided parents, family and staff with update regarding a student behavior situation at the school.
The Beaver Dam High School administration received information Monday that a student had posted a hit list on their social media account. The administration took immediate action, involved the Beaver Dam police department and worked to determine whether or not there was a credible threat.
“It has been determined that there is no credible threat associated with this inappropriate posting on social media,” DiStefano said. “We are business as usual for this final stretch of the school year.”
DiStefano added that the administration is taking very firm measures to reiterate that the school district does not tolerate behaviors that instill fear and detract from the learning environment.
“The discipline for these type of irresponsible and inconsiderate actions is severe,” he said.
He also said the incident serves as a reminder of how important it is for parents to closely monitor their children’s social media activity and to help promote safe and respectful use.
