NEW YORK (AP) — The Boston Red Sox get a few days of rest now, after eliminating the New York Yankees, 4-3, last night. The Red Sox are set for a postseason rematch with the World Series champion Astros. Game one of the American League Championship Series is set for Saturday night at Fenway Park.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The defending champion Washington Capitals host their Stanley Cup Final opponent, the Vegas Golden Knights, tonight. The Caps have scored 13 goals in their first two games of this young season. They whitewashed the Boston Bruins, 7-0, in their opener, then fell 7-6 in overtime to the Pittsburgh Penguins the next night. Since then, they’ve been waiting for Vegas to arrive. The Golden Knights have one win against a pair of losses.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks will practice at home on today before boarding a roughly nine-hour flight to London, where they’ll face the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Coach Pete Carroll says he’s consulted with his former defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley, about the best strategies for handling the overseas trip. Bradley made the journey once a year for four seasons as the Jaguars’ coach.
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) — Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen (reh-TEEF’ GOO’-sin) and three-time major champion Jan Stephenson are among five people selected for induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame. A 16-member panel of mostly golf administrators also selected retired Augusta National chairman Billy Payne, LPGA charter member and renowned teacher Peggy Kirk Bell and Dennis Walters, who has been inspiring golfers through clinics despite being paralyzed from the chest down since he was 24.
BRUSSELS (AP) — Police have been conducting scores of raids across seven European countries as part of a vast probe into financial fraud and match-fixing in soccer. The federal prosecutor’s office says 44 raids are being conducted in Belgium and 13 more in France, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Montenegro, Serbia and Macedonia.
