Monopoly Heading to Internet
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) _ Monopoly, the board game based on the old-fashioned concept of greed, is entering the newfangled world of the Internet.
Monopoly manufacturer Hasbro Inc. is testing a computerized version of the game that will allow multiple players from around the world to compete over the Internet.
Users can play each other in different languages. Translations, including currency exchange, are immediate.
The high-tech version, created by Las Vegas-based Westwood Studios, will feature a 3-D board with moving game pieces that jump to the beat of 1930s ragtime music.
The game will be available in September on Windows and Mac CD-Rom formats for about $40.
Monopoly, dubbed the world’s most popular board game, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
