Anglers urged to watch out for invasive waterflea
SHELBURNE, Vt. (AP) — Anglers are warned to keep an eye out for waterfleas while fishing at Lake Champlain this holiday weekend.
WCAX-TV reports that boat launch stewards with the Lake Champlain Basin Program say the invasive waterfleas are known for hanging on to fishing gear.
The Fishnook waterflea is native to Eurasia and eats plankton which is food for native species in Lake Champlain.
Lake users can help prevent their spread by cleaning their boats and fishing lines when moving between lakes.
