SCE&G COAL TAR

COLUMBIA — State and federal officials want a private utility to reconsider its decision to leave coal tar created when power was generated a century ago at the bottom of a South Carolina river. The state Department of Environmental Control and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers send a letter last month, saying South Carolina Electric & Gas was misleading about how to clean up the tar.
