MBTA prepares to deal with blizzard

January 26, 2015

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker says the MBTA will not run on Tuesday, at the height of a blizzard.

A T spokesman says everything is currently running smoothly and normal rail service is expected through the Monday evening commute, but warns that as weather conditions worsen, “significant changes are expected in the regular schedules.”

Riders are encouraged to check the agency’s website for service updates before heading out.

The agency’s equipment is fueled up and ready to go. Plows are being attached to trains and crews have checked third-rail heaters to ensure they are working.

The T is allowing overnight parking in its garages without penalty, but is asking commuters to clear outdoor lots to allow for snow removal.

Two feet or more of snow is expected.
