Sound Off Barbara Daly What’s the first step that buyers should take when buying a home?
Buyers in 2019 are very different buyers from the buyers of 10 years ago. They are both knowledgeable and informed.
Thanks to the Internet, there is a wealth of information on homes and the real estate market. While valuable, some of this information may be misleading or inaccurate. Despite this, a trained real estate broker can help you navigate through the complications and realities in today’s market.
A key component in finding a broker is compatibility, as the process of buying a home is involved and sometimes trying. You are looking for an advocate to represent you in this process, and that should be a person with whom you feel comfortable in discussing both your desires and concerns.
Ask friends or associates if there is someone that they would recommend based on past experiences. The websites of the real estate firms also contain profiles of the brokers, which detail their philosophy and process, as well as testimonials from past clients.
The initial exchange between you and your broker is crucial in both understanding what it is you desire and what the market is offering.
Define exactly what is that you want and then communicate that to your broker. Discuss with the Realtor whether the market will bear your expectations as you have laid them out, and keep the lines of communications open with your broker, as your ideas about what you want may evolve over time.
