NY Gov. Cuomo welcomes Maryland to group fighting tax law
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is welcoming Maryland to the group of states vowing to challenge the constitutionality of the federal tax overhaul.
Cuomo noted the state’s decision to join New York, Connecticut and New Jersey Thursday at an event on Long Island. Cuomo announced plans for a lawsuit last month, saying the tax overhaul enacted by Washington Republicans unfairly targets states with Democratic states.
In New York and other high-tax states, the changes will raise federal taxes for many homeowners by capping a state and local tax deduction at $10,000.
Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, a Democrat, announced last week that his state would challenge the law, which he said will “jack up taxes for more than half a million Marylanders.”
