Greenwich Academy soccer downs Holy Child
Greenwich Academy extended its winning streak to three games by registering a 3-1 win over visiting School of the Holy Child in an FAA matchup held on Monday.
Junior forward Katie Goldsmith scored two goals, while junior forward Tessa Brooks tallied once to lead the Gators’ offense.
Goldsmith gave GA a 1-0 lead when she converted a shot from far out in the 10th minute.
“It was from about 40 yards out, a great goal, an amazing strike,” Greenwich Academy coach Alistair Lonsdale said of Goldsmith’s goal. “We kept creating chances and must have had 30 to 40 shots.”
After junior midfielder Taylor Lane got fouled in the box, Goldsmith took the penalty kick for GA and she scored, extending the Gators’ lead in the second half. Holy Child’s goal came off a free kick.
Brooks’ goal occured in the second half, making it 3-1.
“It was a great individual effort,” said Lonsdale, who also credited senior co-captain Karina Toub, who moved the ball to Brooks. “Tessa beat a defender and drilled it into the goal.”
GA’s record stands at 3-1 overall and 3-0 in FAA play. Up next for the Gators is a road match against Miss Porter’s School on Saturday.
