Firefighters respond 2-alarm Stamford fire

STAMFORD - Firefighters were dispatched to a report two-alarm fire at the AVA apartments on Forest Street Thursday morning.

The call came in before 11:30 a.m. for the 15-story apartment building at 50 Forest Street.

As it turned out, there was no fire.

The building was testing the fire pump in the garage and it started smoking. There was no damage to anything besides the pump.

The second alarm was called because it’s a high rise building with an occupancy of 306 people.

No one displaced or even out in the cold. Building is accessible.

Firefighters did welfare checks of a few handicapped residents who were unable to leave the building.

The building has an appraised value of nearly $15 million, according to Stamford property records.
