Body of swimmer who disappeared on Roanoke River found
WINDSOR, N.C. (AP) — Emergency officials in North Carolina say the body of a swimmer missing since last Friday has been found.
Bertie County Emergency Management Director Mitch Cooper told local news outlets the body of the 20-year-old man was found six miles from the Lewiston Woodville boat access point where he had been swimming in the Roanoke River with friends.
Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said the swimmer got too close to the current area and went under the river surface twice. Holley said another man went out and tried to save the swimmer but couldn’t.
The man’s identity hasn’t been released. His body was recovered on Monday.
