MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) — State troopers say a cyclist was killed in north Alabama after he was struck by a police car.

The TimesDaily reports that 70-year-old Bramlett Osteen died after the Monday morning accident.

Alabama Trooper Cpl. Jeremy Baker told the newspaper that Osteen was riding a bicycle that was struck by a Muscle Shoals police officer. Baker said the accident happened around 3:20 a.m. Monday.

Muscle Shoals Police Chief Clint Reck said he has asked the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to investigate the fatal accident since it involved a police officer.

Muscle Shoals Mayor David Bradford told the newspaper that it was a "tragic accident."

Authorities did not release the name of the officer.
