July 9, 2018

The fire marshal investigated a fire in Fairhope over the weekend that destroyed a recreation vehicle.

Roughly 20 firefighters from Berlin and Hyndman in Bedford County were dispatched at 11:40 p.m. on Saturday to extinguish the fire, which was located at the intersection of Palmer and Main streets. It took the crews 15 minutes to knock down the blaze of the vehicle, which belonged to Paula Wargo, of Hyndman. No one was injured in the incident, according to Berlin Fire Chief Bill Miller.

Tankers from Hyndman were used as the water source. No estimate was given on the damage, but it was declared a total loss. The scene was cleared at 1:37 a.m., according to Somerset County Control. The RV was insured. Miller said he wouldn’t describe the fire as suspicious, but the cause remains unknown.
