Ladies win three, lose one, tie one at 42-team tourney in St. George
NEEDLES – The Needles High School Lady ’Stangs varsity softball team added a couple of more out of conference wins during their week of play.
It all started with a game close to home against the Mohave Accelerated Learning Center Lady Patriots on March 11. The Lady ’Stangs came out victorious, 13-2, in a game that was played right before they got rained out.
“It’s great to get games in early on in the season so we see what we need to work on in practice,” said Alex Chandler, Lady ’Stangs softball head coach. “It gives us the opportunity to prepare for our league games.”
Once that game was over the Lady ’Stangs took a long drive up to St. George, Utah, to participate in the 2019 March Warm-Up Classic Tournament.
“It’s a great tournament and we hope that we have a little fun and get some wins while we are there,” said Chandler.
The Lady ’Stangs started the tournament with a 17-1 win against Lone Pine High School on March 15. Lady ’Stangs senior Paige Murch pitched the game that only went two-and-a-half innings.
The second game of their tournament was a 10-10 tie with Hurricane High School. The Lady ’Stangs took a well-deserved break for a couple of hours until their next game against Parowan High School.
The Lady ’Stangs, behind Paige Murch and Riley Breaux’ home runs, were able to get the 16-5 win over their opponents.
“The first day of the tournament has been good and it’s even better that our bats were hot through all three games,” said Chandler.
Note: Coach Alex Chandler reported the Lady ’Stangs defeated Altamont 16-15 and lost to Morgan 7-6 on Day 2 of the 42-team tournament.
