Rutherford on form for NZ XI vs. West Indies
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — Test opener Hamish Rutherford comleted back-to-back half centuries as New Zealand batsmen took most advantage of a three-day tour match laid on to prepare the West Indies for next week’s first test.
After making 61 from 49 balls in the New Zealand XI’s first innings, Rutherford was 61 not out at stumps on the second day, helping the home team to 103-0. His test opening partner Peter Fulton, dismissed for 1 in the first innings, was 32 not out.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul top-scored for the West Indies with 89 as they reached 230-6 declared; a first innings lead of three runs.
