HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL STATE TOURNAMENT SCORES

May 18, 2019

5A

COEUR D’ALENE 13, HIGHLAND 6

Coeur d’Alene’s seven-run fourth inning pushed it past Highland 13-6 on Friday in the first round of the 5A state tournament at Post Falls High School.

The Rams led 4-3 through three frames, but couldn’t catch up after the Vikings’ big inning. Roni Bosquez and Jordan Frasure each hit a home run for Highland.

The Rams (22-5-1) play Saturday against either Rocky Mountain or Centennial at 11 a.m. MDT in the consolation bracket.

The 5A tournament has been shortened because of weather and field conditions, altering the double-elimination format. Highland can no longer come back through the consolation bracket and win a state title. The best Highland can do is win the consolation championship.

4A

Pocatello vs. Lakeland, PPD

The 4A softball state tournament has been changed to a single-elimination format and will be played Saturday because of Friday’s unplayable field conditions. Pocatello’s game against Lakeland has been rescheduled to Saturday at noon MDT at Lakeland High School.

3A

Snake River vs. Timberlake, PPD

The 3A softball state tournament was rained out Friday. All games were rescheduled to Saturday, and the tournament format has changed from a true double-elimination bracket. The state champion now must win three games without losing in the single-elimination championship bracket. First-round losers still head to the consolation bracket. The winning teams of the first consolation game play for the consolation championship, and the semifinal losers play for third place.

Snake River’s first-round state tournament game was rescheduled to Saturday at noon MDT at Coeur d’Alene’s Ramsey Park.

2A

Malad vs. Orofino, PPD

Soda Springs vs. McCall-Donnelly, PPD

All 2A softball state tournament games Friday were rescheduled to Saturday because of weather and field conditions. The tournament resumes Saturday at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.

The tournament format has also changed. The championship bracket is single-elimination, and the two teams that lose in the semifinals will play for third and fourth place.

Malad plays Orofino at 11:30 a.m. MDT. Soda Springs plays McCall-Donnelly at 11:30 a.m. MDT.
