BOSTON (AP) _ Boston Red Sox center fielder Carl Everett was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers for tossing his bat at the feet of homeplate umpire Bill Welke.
After being called out on a third strike in the seventh inning, Everett threw his bat at Welke’s feet then approached the umpire and started to argue. Red Sox first base coach Tommy Harper came over to restrain Everett. Third base coach Gene Lamont and manager Jimy Williams also got between Everett and Welke.
Everett continued to yell at Welke as he walked to the dugout.
Everett first took issue with a called second strike from Rangers pitcher Mark Petkovsek. On the next pitch, Welke called Everett out.
Everett was 0-for-4, including a groundout with the bases loaded in the third inning.
