South Carolina church volunteer faces molestation charge
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A church volunteer in South Carolina has been arrested and charged with molesting a 3-year-old boy.
News outlets reported that 28-year-old Jacop Robert Lee Hazlett of North Charleston has been charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years of age.
A police statement says the alleged abuse happened at NewSpring Church in North Charleston. The statement says Hazlett was supervising a group of children ranging in age from 3 to 5.
The statement says Hazlett took the boy into a bathroom.
Church communications director Suzanne Swift said a letter to parents stated that church officials became aware of the allegation Monday and reviewed surveillance video. The church is cooperating with police.
There was no record of an attorney for him yet.
