June 8, 2000

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) _ Former Buffalo Bills safety Martin Bayless is the team’s new director of player development/special projects.

Bayless will be responsible for promotional projects and assisting players in career development, taking over a role held by Jerry Butler, who joined the Cleveland Browns coaching staff last year. The appointment was announced Thursday.

Bayless spent 13 seasons in the NFL, including two with the Bills in the mid-1980s. Drafted by St. Louis in 1984, he also played with Kansas City, San Diego and Washington.

Bayless earned distinction for community service, founding the Martin Bayless Charitable Foundation in 1994.
