2 young children survive Indiana crash that killed parents
DALEVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say two young children survived a single-vehicle crash along a rain-slicked road in central Indiana that killed their parents.
The Delaware County sheriff’s office says 28-year-old Jerome Thompson of Anderson and 22-year-old China Shouse were pronounced dead at the scene of Thursday’s crash. Thompson was driving the car, which hit a tree in Daleville, about 40 miles (64 kilometers) northeast of Indianapolis.
Sheriff’s Capt. Tony Johnson said the 1-year-old boy and an infant girl were believed to have escaped serious injury, but they were hospitalized.
The Herald Bulletin reports family members identified them as the couple’s children. Shouse’s uncle, Andy Stith, says Shouse’s “heart was genuine” and she “just wanted to be a good mother.”
Thompson tells The Star Press speed and road conditions may have been factors.
