HARRISBURG, Pa. _ State lawmakers are convening in the Pennsylvania Capitol on New Year’s Day to take the oath of office under a state constitutional mandate they meet on the first Tuesday of the year. Forty-two House members and seven senators are expected to be sworn in for the first time after winning elections in November. _ POLICE STANDOFF-MAN DEAD _ Authorities say a Pennsylvania man who called for an ambulance but then shot at emergency responders and held them at bay for hours has died after police returned his fire.
_ DEADLY STREET FIGHT _ Authorities say a New Year’s Day street fight between two men in a western Pennsylvania city ended with one combatant dead and the other stabbed and injured.
_ BODY FOUND IN RIVER _ Authorities say a man found dead in a waterway in western Pennsylvania has been identified as a New Jersey man.
