Feds: NC man hid meth inside bags of dog food, box of detergent

A High Point man was convicted Tuesday of drug trafficking charges after prosecutors said he smuggled methamphetamine from Atlanta to Greenville inside bags of dog food and a box of laundry detergent.

A federal court jury found Brandon Duwayne Wright, 33, guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

Wright met an informant in the parking lot of a Walmart in Greenville to hand over what Wright referred to as “groceries,” prosecutors said. Authorities said it was clear the dog food bags had already been opened because they were sealed up with clear plastic tape.

Wright faces a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced.
