Company Recalls SeAnimals Cookies

October 20, 1999

CARY, N.C. (AP) _ Austin Quality Foods Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of all 48-ounce packages of SeAnimals cookies because they may contain an ingredient, soy protein, that is not included on the product label.

People who are allergic to soy protein may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions who they eat the cookies. No illness or other complications from eating the cookies have been reported.

The affected packages were distributed in the United States and Canada between March and October 1999.

The soy protein was contained in a flavoring used to produce 48-ounce packages of SeAnimals. Austin’s flavoring supplier substituted a soy-based ingredient for a whey-based ingredient without approval.

Consumers may return 48-ounce packages of SeAnimals to the place of purchase for a full refund.
