Luther Prep girls lose to top-ranked Marshall 67-46

December 6, 2018

The Luther Prep girls basketball team lost to state top-ranked Marshall 67-46 in a nonconference game on Tuesday at LPS despite 15 points from freshman Grace Schmidt.

Marshall (4-0) led by 13 points at halftime and extended its lead in the second half in part because of solid play from guard Mia Morel who scored a game-high 21 points.

“Mia Morel is an all-state selection,” Luther Prep head coach Mark Schroeder said. “I thought we did a decent job of stepping in and slowing her down. When we did that she found her post players and dumped it in. They were finishing at the hoop and playing strong offensive basketball.”

Luther Prep’s Abbie Burke finished with six points. Ally Goba and Naomi Bridgemen scored five points apiece.

“We’re going to regroup and look forward to pressuring ourselves in practice more,” Schroeder said. “Now that we’ve seen high quality basketball, we need to pick our practices up and push each other harder.”

Marshall’s Anna Lutz contributed 15 points and Laura Nickel added 12.

Luther Prep travels to face Cambridge on Friday.
