Brandeis University names new president

December 17, 2015

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) — Brandeis University has named Ronald Liebowitz, the former president of Middlebury College in Vermont, as the ninth president of the private Massachusetts school.

Brandeis said in a statement Thursday that Liebowitz will begin his new role on July 1, 2016.

Liebowitz says he’s honored to lead Brandeis and is looking forward to working with students, faculty and staff and advancing the university as a “model for teaching, learning and research.”

The 58-year-old Liebowitz spent more than three decades at Middlebury as a professor of geography and later as provost. He served as the school’s president from 2004 until June of this year.

Brandeis says Lisa Lynch, who has been serving as interim president since July, will return to her previous role as provost and chief academic officer.
