BNF girls swimmers finish 2nd at home invite
The BNF co-op swimming and diving team hosted the Beatrice Invite on Saturday and the girls team finished second.
The team consists of swimmers from Beatrice, Norris and Fairbury High Schools.
They finished with a team score of 358, which was only bested by Lincoln Pius X’s team score of 388. Ralston/Gross finished with 163 points and Brownell Talbot/BTCMR finished with 137.
The Beatrice boys co-op team finished with 223 points, which was good enough for third place. Lincoln Pius X won the boys title with 362 while Ralston/Gross finished with 307. Brownell-Talbot/BTCMR finished behind Beatrice with 129 points.
Beatrice coach Marian Wallen said this is a good meet to start the season with because it’s against a few teams from the River Cities Conference.
“This gives the team some ideas on who they will be competing against multiple times throughout the season,” Wallen said.
Wallen was happy with how both teams competed, especially since they had many individual swimmers finish in the top three in their events.
“This is very encouraging that we continue to drop time and have more swimmers qualify for the state meet,” Wallen said.
Mikasa Lierman and Colton Starck both had good meets, dropping time and qualifying for state with secondary times. Sophomores Crystal Craft, Maya Moran and Mikwena Lierman also performed well and continue to improve their state qualifying times.
Wallen said the teams have a lot of depth this year, which allows them to move swimmers around to different events where they can score points for the team.
“We were very impressed with the teams support of one another throughout the meet,” Wallen said. “We have three high schools, but we always consider ourselves one team. We are not a Beatrice team, a Norris team or a Fairbury team -- we are the BNF team. Everyone cheers and encourages one another. This, I believe, contributes to our 35 personal best performances in this meet.”
