Frida Kahlo exhibition planned next year in NYC
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Botanical Garden is planning a major exhibition on Frida Kahlo next year that will examine how nature influenced her artwork.
It will also reimagine Kahlo’s garden and studio outside Mexico City, known as Casa Azul.
“Frida Kahlo’s Garden” will be on view from May 16 to Nov. 1, 2015.
The Garden’s Enid A. Haupt Conservatory will feature lava rock paths lined with flowers and plants native to Mexico. There also will be a scale version of a pyramid at Casa Azul that was created to display pre-Columbian art collected by her husband, muralist Diego Rivera.
A group of rare paintings and works on paper highlighting Kahlo’s use of botanical imagery will be on display in a gallery at the Garden’s library.
